In 1892, four town lots on William Street, a few streets back of St. Mary’s Church, were purchased for a Catholic Cemetery, (lots 15, 16, 17 & 18) costing $110. It was officially consecrated in 1896. There are tomb stones dated before this; evidently the bodies moved from directly behind St. Mary’s Church, into the cemetery. In 1944 anew section was opened, and the fence was moved farther south. A new cross was erected in 1953. Two more plots of land were purchases in 1965 from Duncan McGregor to enlarge the cemetery. -from the book written by Wilf Johnston

St. Helen’s Catholic Cemetery property was donated by Timothy D. Crowley, October 1, 1887, and because of this, it was initially referred to as the Crowley Cemetery. The first body buried at St. Helen’s was the daughter of Timothy Cowley, Miss Maggie, in 1894. The first large cross in the cemetery was erected on August 16, 1954- data from Mrs. Thomas Keogh, Oct 7, 1958
In 1996 another cross was erected and a Corpus added in 1997. After being vandalized, the Corpus was replaced in 2004.
